Plumbing Tips to Save You Money. Have We Gone Mad?!
Not at all… we just think there are times you really need us, and times you don’t.
No doubt about it… the best way to save money on plumbing is to minimize the need in the first place. Here are some plumbing tips sure to save you money.
And a good place to start is with your drains. Many homes, for example, have one or two problem drains and several that never need attention at all.
Problem drains are often the result of an excess buildup of grease. So the idea is to arrest its growth before you require professional assistance. There are a few ways you can do that:
- Before grease solidifies, pour it into an old coffee can instead of pouring it down the drain, and then throw it out with your regular trash;
- When you do pour grease down the drain, wash it down with cold water, even though most people are inclined to use hot water;
- Use a drain cleaning product like BIO CLEAN (which you can purchase from your Applewood Technician) periodically as a preventive measure… some people even have good luck with boiling, sudsy water.
For bathroom sinks, consider installing a screen or drain cover to prevent hair from clogging the drain.
You can also save money on plumbing indirectly by replacing toilets, showerheads and faucets with new water-saving fixtures.
Of course, sooner or later, everyone needs a plumber…and we’re grateful each time you call on the plumbing professionals at Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric. But even then, you can save money by making a checklist of everything you want addressed when we visit. By combining repairs into the same visit – vs. calling us back for one service at a time – you’ll definitely realize some significant savings. We hope these plumbing tips save you some money.
