Applewood Plumbing awards $1,000 giveaway to National Sports Center for the Disabled
National Sports Center for the Disabled is the winner of the $1,000 Caring Community Giveaway from Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric.
The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) provides therapeutic, adaptive sports and recreational programs for people with disabilities of any age and any ability.
Established in 1970, the NSCD has grown to be one of the largest, premier therapeutic recreation agencies in the world. Each year the NSCD serves 3,000 children and adults with disabilities who partake in the more than 20 sports and recreational programs, from snow skiing and kayaking to rafting and rock climbing.
“The $1,000 from Applewood will help fund our recreational programs in Jefferson County, said Becky Zimmermann, president/CEO, National Sport Center for the Disabled. “We’re grateful for this donation from Applewood.”
The NSCD staff and volunteers teach individuals with any physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral diagnosis. Its staff is 50 strong and 36 are specially trained running programs in Denver and throughout Winter Park and Grand County. Children and adults learn sports at the state-of-the-art 2,100 square-foot adaptive equipment lab in Winter Park.
Volunteers are key to the NSCD, in fact more than 1,300 trained volunteers dedicate countless hours to helping people with a disability to ski, snowboard, play team sports and achieve their personal best. The NSCD hosts several fundraising events throughout the year.
