Denver’s Applewood Plumbing sends support Santa’s way
Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric’s November $1,000 Caring Community Giveaway winner is a perfect fit for this time of year.
The Arapahoe Santa Claus Shop will receive the award from Applewood, just in time to make the holidays a little merrier for a lot more children.
“The holidays are meant to be a joyful time, but unfortunately that’s not the case for every family,” said Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric President John Ward. “Groups like the Arapahoe Santa Claus Shop work hard year-round to spread cheer during this time of year.”
The nonprofit began with a small group of people who felt Christmas was a great time to give to those who were less fortunate. After 54 years of operation, Arapahoe Santa Claus Shop Co-Director Shirley Nixon noted that donors and volunteers have been especially generous in 2013.
“The community has given us the impetus to do this,” said Nixon. “Parents use our shop as a way to teach their kids the value of giving back and some of our volunteers have been working with us for 30 years.”
Books, dolls, bicycles and stuffed animals are just a few of the items the nonprofit collects throughout the year. The Arapahoe Santa Claus Shop provides these items for about 3000 children annually. Nixon says Applewood’s $1,000 Caring Community Giveaway will primarily be used to buy toys this holiday season.
