Feeding Denver’s Hungry wins $5,000 in Applewood Plumbing Fall Caring Community Giveaway
Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric has counted the votes for their quarterly Caring Community Giveaway and the winner of $5,000 is Feeding Denver’s Hungry. Project Angel Heart and Food for Thought – Denver were also part of this quarter’s Giveaway that focused on helping feed local communities.
“Feeding Denver’s Hungry are doing important work to ensure food for underserved people in our community,” said Josh Ward, owner and president of Applewood Plumbing & Electric.” We are happy to play a part in alleviating this worry for individuals and families.”
Food insecurity is an issue for 1 out of 10 Colorado residents, according to data from the Colorado Health Access Survey. This means not being able to buy the food you need or eating less than you should. Organizations such as Feeding Denver’s Hungry, Project Angel Heart and Food for Thought – Denver are all part of ensuring food for those in need.
Feeding Denver’s Hungry is a nonprofit working against food insecurity with an emphasis on reaching out to nourish and meet the physical needs of the underserved and overburdened. The organization started providing healthy sack lunches in 2013 as a way to give back to the community. Winning this quarter’s Giveaway helps Feeding Denver’s Hungry to continue their work against food insecurity in the community.
“This means a lot for our organization and the community. As a result of this Giveaway, we will be able to buy and provide more protein such as chicken and ground beef,” said Jim Scharper, CEO and owner of Feeding Denver’s Hungry.
Project Angel Heart and Food for Thought – Denver will also receive $500 each for their efforts.
Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric, now in its 50th year of operation, has given more than $250,000 to nonprofits in the Denver metro region through its Caring Community Giveaway. Throughout Colorado’s Front Range, the initiative has assisted many local nonprofits.
