Pets Deserve A Cool Summer Too

Summer’s sunshine is perfect for fun with friends and family, but it can also get toasty. While we can adjust our own thermostats in the summer’s rough heat, keeping our furry friends cool and safe can be a challenge.

Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric sees several pets daily and wants to be sure they remain safe. Here’s what you need to know about how hot weather affects pets and what you can do to keep them safe.

Animals can’t regulate heat the way humans do and are at greater risk of developing heatstroke. Simple things you can do to reduce that risk:

• Limit exercise on hot days
• Never leave your pet in a hot vehicle
• Walk your pet on grass
• Keep your pet hydrated
• Exercise when temperatures are cooler

Make sure you have the systems in place to make your house a haven for your pets from the outside heat. Fans are a powerful accessory but to make a real difference swamp coolers and A/C can provide the consistent cooling of your home.

Evaporative coolers, or swamp coolers, can help our furry friends stay cool. An evaporative cooler works like a giant sweat session for your pets. Hot air gets pulled through water-saturated pads causing the water to evaporate and cool the air. This leaves cooler air throughout the house to keep pets cool this summer.

A/C is another cooling system option. As the liquid refrigerant converts to gas, heat is absorbed from the indoor air into the refrigerant which cools the air as it passes over the coils. An A/C system  provides an overall, consistent cool environment.
