Phamaly Theatre Company Wins Applewood’s Caring Community Giveaway
Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric recently held their quarterly Caring Community Giveaway and Phamaly Theatre Company was voted as the winner, who will receive $5,000 for their community programs.
This quarter’s Community Giveaway focused on local nonprofit organizations that work with individuals with disabilities. The organizations showcased, Phamaly Theatre Company; Seniors’ Resource Center; and the National Sports Center for the Disabled, were selected by Applewood employees.
Supporting the Arts
“We are excited to be able to support an amazing local organization that has opened opportunities and made such a positive impact through the arts,” said Josh Ward, owner of Applewood.
Phamaly Theatre Company is the longest-running disability-affirmative nonprofit theatre company in the country. It was founded in 1989 by five students living with a disability who were frustrated with the lack of theatrical opportunities for people living with disabilities. PTC is an organization that exclusively features theatre artists with disabilities. Their mission is to represent a disability-affirmative theatrical process and upend conventional narratives by transforming individuals, audiences, and the world. PTC gives actors the chance to explore their craft and empowers artists within their disability identity. Phamaly produces a repertoire of musicals, plays, and original work.
“We are deeply appreciative of the support from Applewood’s Caring Community Giveaway. This award helps ensure the Metro Denver Community will continue to experience Phamaly’s transformative and award-winning disability-affirmative theatre,” says Managing Director of PTC Sasha Hutchings. “This funding is especially important given the ongoing challenges associated with the pandemic.”
The 2022 Theater Season
Funds from the award will be used to support Phamaly’s 2022 season, including The Rocky Horror Show, at Su Teatro Cultural and Performing Arts Center from August 12th to September 4th, and Vox Vergere, at The People’s Building from October 13th to the 23rd.
Continuing to Support Colorado Non Profits
The runner ups for the Giveaway, Seniors’ Resource Center and the National Sports Center for the Disabled, will each receive $500.
Through the Caring Community Giveaway, Applewood has made a positive impact on the Denver-metro community by donating more than $250,000 to local nonprofits.
